I think that while transparency and other issues being raised in the wake of the Toyota recalls are certainly important, this should also be a call to moderate our love of novelty and "improved" versions. When companies change their line every year, these tragedies become inevitable. In a very real way, the people who have died in uncontrolled acceleration accidents were killed by the demands of marketing and fashion.
